Storage and archiving specialist Proact is undergoing rapid growth in the field of niche outsourcing services such as backup, recovery and storage. Selective outsourcing has increased by 200 per cent over the past 12 months, and this strong growth is set to continue.

Aftonbladet is outsourcing its backup and recovery management to Proact. This investment will give Aftonbladet better control over stored information and allow a volume-based payment model to be applied, which will be considerably more cost-effective.

Aftonbladet has invested in a new, disk-based archiving solution for its image archive, which includes both still images and video. This new system, which has been built by archive and storage specialists Proact, means considerably shorter re-establishment times and enhanced disaster protection.

This solution is based on the Caringo archive system, which is a modern, cost-effective archiving solution. The investment: about a tenth of the price of other archiving solutions on the market. This solution offers stringent security and keeps system administration costs to a minimum.

Proact has entered into close partnership with NYX Interactive AB, a company developing and supplying online gaming systems. Proact has now supplied and installed a complete infrastructure for a gaming solution supplied by NYX to a state gaming operator outside Sweden. The companies have also entered into a comprehensive helpdesk agreement in parallel with this. This deal is worth around SEK 4 million a year.

The Boeing-owned Jeppesen Systems and Proact have concluded a Storage Service Provider agreement (the SSP agreement) under which Proact agrees to provide disk space to Jeppesen Systems when necessary. The agreement includes the provision of technical support, consultancy and operation and is part of a package that obliges Jeppesen Systems to pay for the service per gigabyte on each calendar month. With this agreement Jeppesen Systems does not have to pay the cost of investment in its own storage infrastructure or the cost of unused storage resources.

Proact has built a new IT environment for Kopenhagen Fur, the biggest commercial centre for furs. This solution includes server virtualisation, iSCSI-based storage and a new, automatic, disk-based system for backup and recovery. This has allowed Kopenhagen Fur to reduce its number of servers from 50 to 7 and given the company a considerably more stable, reliable and environmentally friendly IT environment.
