Secure research data at IFE
Security has been paramount at the Institute for Energy Technology, IFE, ever since it began in 1948. Not just because of the Institute's research into atomic energy, but also because of the valuable research data processed there. Secure storage and backup have gradually become ever more important as the amounts of data stored have skyrocketed.

Proact designed and constructed a new solution based on NetApp hardware and software. The new solution consists of a primary storage element with fast disks and data transfer using fibre optics, and a secondary, mirrored solution for backup data which is based on less expensive SATA disks.
"But best of all, we don't have to think about things or worry any more," says Morten Kopperud of IFE. "Everything just runs itself. Now we can focus instead on new challenges — like planning new storage requirements. Because after all, we always have to stay just one step ahead of the mysterious storage muncher..."
